Standard of Care:
SNAP believes that all animals should receive the highest quality veterinary care possible, regardless of whether the services rendered are for free or at reduced-cost. All SNAP facilities use state of the art instruments and equipment. All spay/neuter surgeries are performed by qualified doctors of veterinary medicine, and all animals entrusted to SNAP are attended to before and after surgery by trained veterinary technicians.

Spaying and Neutering Services
Free services are available only to qualified clients.  To qualify for free services, clients must bring a photo ID and proof that they participate in one of the following programs:

Food Stamps  Medicaid

Major VA Disability

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
HUD Section 8 Housing San Antonio AIDS Foundation
CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) Social Security Disability (SSD)
Free Lunch Program (Public Schools) Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for
Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) - Formerly AFDC

What to Expect/Limitations
Free spaying and neutering is available from the SNAP mobile spay-neuter clinic to dogs and cats of qualifying households. PLEASE NOTE: SNAP IS NO LONGER USING A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED SYSTEM. THERE IS NO LONGER ANY NEED TO ARRIVE HOURS IN ADVANCE. Clients are selected from a RANDOM LOTTERY. Tickets for the lottery are distributed  by the SNAP advance team between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. The lottery itself is held at 7:30 a.m. YOU MUST BE ON SITE BY 7:00 A.M. WHEN THE DISTRIBUTION OF LOTTERY TICKETS BEGINS. THE RESULTS OF THE LOTTERY AT 7:30 WILL DETERMINE WHETHER YOUR ANIMAL WILL BE SEEN THAT DAY AND YOUR PLACE IN LINE. We accept one animal per household per day. Unfortunately, due to space limitations, there are often more clients and animals at each site than we are able to serve. The clinic has cages of various sizes including a limited number for large dogs. While we strive to take animals in order, cage sizes sometimes preclude strict adherence to this policy. Our goal is to serve the maximum number of animals possible on a given day.

Restraining Your Animal:
Upon arrival, all dogs and cats should be restrained by a leash or in a carrier. Cats may be contained in pillow cases.  The mobile clinic does accept feral (wild) cats. Feral cats must be brought to the site in a humane trap.

Vaccination Policies:
Current rabies vaccination is required for all dogs and cats.  If your animal has been vaccinated against rabies, a valid vaccination certificate must be provided.  Unvaccinated animals and animals without proof of current rabies vaccinations will be vaccinated against rabies free of charge. Non-qualified clients must also pay for a rabies vaccination.  Other vaccinations are not required by law but are strongly recommended.

Clients who do not meet these requirements must pay applicable sterilization fees.

Payment for Services:

SNAP accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and
Discover

Payment must be made at the time of service if you do not qualify for free services. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, cash, and personal checks.

Pick-up Time:
Once surgical procedures are completed and after full recovery from anesthesia, animals are discharged from the clinic the same day as surgery.  You will be assigned a time to pick up your animal when you drop it off at the mobile clinic. For the safety of your animal, no overnight stays are permitted.

Emergencies:
Should any emergencies or postsurgical questions arise, our medical team is on call 24 hours a day for your convenience. Our San Antonio medical team may be contacted by calling 210-632-0902. NOTE: This number is for post-surgery aftercare ONLY. Please call 210.673.7722 during regular business hours for any other information.

Please consider taking your animal to the new SNAP Spay-Neuter and Animal Wellness Clinic at the Ingram Square shopping center if you do not qualify for our FREE spay-neuter program. It offers the same fees charged on the mobile unit.
